Celtic Curse is an old name for the ancient genetic defect that produces hereditary hemochromatosis (HH), also called genetic haemochromatosis (GH) which can iron overload that damages joints, liver and other organs. Common symptoms are fatigue, joint pain, and sexual issues. HH can disable or even be fatal if not diagnosed promptly (creating an issue for menopausal women called hemopause).

HH is not as rare as many doctors think. In Ireland 1 in 83 people carry the gene (hence the name Celtic Curse). The Iron Disorders Institute says it affects over one million Americans. Iron overload can be treated and damage limited IF it is detected early enough.
